Nakhon Nayok ( Thai : นครนายก , pronunciation: [náʔkʰɔːn naːjók] ; literally translated: capital of the leader ) is the capital of the Thai province of Nakhon Nayok . It has the status of a "city commune" ( เทศบาล เมือง นครนายก ) and is located in the district ( Amphoe ) Mueang Nakhon Nayok . The Nakhon Nayok Province is located in the northeast of the central region of Thailand .
geography
Nakhon Nayok is located on the northern edge of the great plain of the Mae Nam Chao Phraya ( Chao Phraya River ). The wooded hill country begins right behind the city. The city is about 100 km from the capital Bangkok .

Thailand's largest plant and horticultural center is located in Nakhon Nayok.
history
Nakhon Nayok was founded around 1100 during the Dvaravati culture . King Ramathibodi I made the city in the early phase of Ayutthaya the garrison city of the eastern border area against the Khmer .
Attractions
- San Lak Mueang ( ศาลหลักเมือง ) - the city column ( Lak Mueang ) used to be a shrine near the old city wall, in which the approximately one meter high, wooden column stood. The building was later replaced by an elegant pavilion, which is now highly revered by the city's population.
