Amphoe Mueang Nakhon Nayok ( Thai อำเภอ เมือง นครนายก ) is a district ( Amphoe - Administrative District) in the Nakhon Nayok Province . The Nakhon Nayok Province is located in the northeast of the central region of Thailand .
The provincial capital Nakhon Nayok is located in this district .
geography
Nakhon Nayok is located on the northern edge of the great plain of Mae Nam Chao Phraya . The wooded hill country begins right behind the city. The city is about 100 km from the capital Bangkok .
Neighboring districts (from southwest clockwise): Amphoe Ongkharak and Ban Na of Nakhon Nayok Province, Amphoe Kaeng Khoi and Muak Lek of Saraburi Province , Amphoe Pak Chong of Nakhon Ratchasima Province , and Amphoe Pak Phli in turn from Nakhon Nayok Province and Amphoe Ban Sang the province of Prachin Buri .
The main water resources of the district are the Mae Nam Nakhon Nayok and the Khlong Tha Dan.

history
Nakhon Nayok was founded around 1100 during the Dvaravati Empire . King Ramathibodi I made the city in the early phase of Ayutthaya the garrison city of the eastern border area against the Khmer .
The area of today's county was previously called Wang Krachom, as the administration in Tambon Wang Krachom was on the left bank of Maenam Nakhon Nayok. Administration was moved to the Right Bank in 1896, and in 1931 administration was relocated to the Provincial Court building because the previous building was too old. A new administration building was then opened on January 18, 1953.
On January 1, 1939, the county was renamed Mueang Nakhon Nayok in accordance with the name of the province. On January 1, 1943, the province was downgraded and amalgamated with Prachinburi Province , although Ban Na County became part of Saraburi Province . The district was then only called Amphoe Nakhon Nayok. On May 9, 1946, the province was restored and the county was renamed Mueang Nakhon Nayok again.
Attractions
- San Lak Mueang ( ศาลหลักเมือง ) - the city column ( Lak Mueang ) used to be a shrine near the old city wall, in which the approximately one meter high, wooden column stood. The building was later replaced by an elegant pavilion, which is now highly revered by the city's population.
- Khao-Yai National Park - one of the most beautiful nature reserves in Thailand, which offers protection to many wild animals (besides elephants and tigers) on more than 2100 km² .
- Sarika Waterfall ( น้ำตก สา ริกา ) - 15 kilometers east of the city, goes over nine terraces, the reservoirs of which are filled during the rainy season .
