Bernhard Hiebl (born August 21, 1971 in Leoben ) is a former Austrian triathlete and duathlete . He is multiple duathlon and triathlon national champion (1999, 2000, 2005, 2006) and is included in the best list of Austrian triathletes on the Ironman distance .

Career

Bernhard Hiebl has been an active military athlete since 2000 and has achieved national and international success in duathlon and triathlon .

National champion triathlon short distance 1999

In 1999 at the Kirchbichl Triathlon, Hiebl became the Austrian triathlon state champion on the Olympic distance (short distance: 1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running).

State champion duathlon 2000, 2005 and 2006

A planned participation in the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 was prevented when Hiebl fell ill with glandular fever in spring 2007 . Bernhard Hiebl started for the Zisser Enns team .

Bernhard Hiebl started on the short distance until 2008 and from 2008 also in long distance competitions.
In August 2008 he won the silver medal at his first start on the long distance at Ironman Canada, just 4 minutes behind the winner Bryan Rhodes from New Zealand. Despite qualifying for the Ironman Hawaii in the same year, he did not start.

He lives in Leonding with his girlfriend and their two children .
