Maximilian (Max) Renko (born September 11, 1985 in Vienna ) is a former Austrian triathlete . He is Ironman world champion in the M18-24 class (2009), national champion over the triathlon middle distance (2010) and national champion cross triathlon (2012) and he is included in the best list of Austrian triathletes on the Ironman distance .
Career
At the age of 15, Max Renko started mountain biking in 2000 and achieved promising results in the following years at the Junior European Championships and World Championships, the Austrian championships and cup races (U-17 and U-23).
In 2006 he started in the triathlon for the first time at the Austrian Championships over the middle distance in Litschau .
State champion triathlon middle distance 2010
In 2009 he was the third-best amateur at the Ironman Hawaii (Ironman World Championships) winner of the age group M18-24. In September 2010 he also became Austrian triathlon state champion over the middle distance (2 km swimming, 80 km cycling and 22 km running) in Saalfelden.
In July 2012, he declared his time as an Ironman professional over and announced that instead of the long distance, he would start more in the short and middle distance in the future. For the Styrian triathlon club SU Tri Styria he took part in a few running and triathlon competitions in the second half of the season.
State champion cross triathlon 2012
In 2012, Max Renko was second in the Olympic distance (short distance: 1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running) at the Krems Triathlon and in September he became national cross triathlon champion.
However , Renko had to cancel a planned start at the Xterra World Championship 2012 at short notice due to an illness. After that Renko did not contest any more international competitions. Renko lived in Vienna and has effectively ended his sporting career, even if he has not explicitly resigned.
Private
He has been married to Lenka Renko (née Bulganová), whom he met at the beginning of 2013, since September 2014 . Beginning in 2016 he joined the Vienna University of Economics a business degree , and since September 2016 he has worked as a product manager at BMW Motorrad in Munich .
