Andreas Giglmayr (born February 7, 1984 in Oberndorf near Salzburg ) is a former Austrian triathlete . He is an Olympian (2012) and multiple Austrian triathlon state champion (2002, 2008, 2013 and 2018) and he is listed as third in the best list of Austrian triathletes on the Ironman distance . Career

Andreas Giglmayr started triathlon at the age of twelve.

In November 2002 he was sixth in the Junior World Championship, in 2003 he was third at the European Triathlon Championship in the junior class and in 2007 he was third at the Military World Championship in India.

State champion triathlon short distance 2008

In September 2008 he became Austrian triathlon state champion over the Olympic distance (1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running) in Vienna. Andreas Giglmayr was a competitive athlete with the Austrian Armed Forces in Salzburg , he trained in the Tri Team Hallein association and competed for the Austrian national triathlon team .

As the best Austrian, he reached 39th place in the World Cup ranking of the 2010 World Championship Series . His 15th place at the finals of the 2010 ITU World Championship racing series in Budapest is the best result ever achieved by an Austrian in a “Grand Final” over the Olympic distance.

2012 Summer Olympics

Giglmayr started at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and finished 40th there.

In January 2014, he started halfway the Ironman distance ( Ironman 70.3 ) for the first time in South Africa - but he couldn't finish the race. In the summer of 2014 he was able to successfully contest his first long distance at Ironman Austria (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running) and finished fourth in the overall classification with one of the world's fastest debut times of 8:09 hours. In July 2018 he became state champion in the middle distance of the Trumer Triathlon .

On July 7, 2019, he became Vice State Champion long distance at Ironman Austria. Two weeks later on July 23, the 35-year-old declared his active career over.

Andreas Giglmayr lives with his partner in Rif near Hallein. His nicknames are Andi or Gigi .
