The Krems Triathlon is a former triathlon sports event that takes place annually in Krems an der Donau and is one of the oldest triathlon events in Austria.

The competition has been held since 1994 by TRV Krems over the Olympic distance (1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running).

In 2010 the Krems Triathlon, originally planned for the beginning of August as usual, had to be canceled due to the flooding and the race was then rescheduled in September. The triathlon was held in the area of ​​the official port until 2010 and was relocated to the area of ​​the industrial port area in 2011, where there is no risk of flooding.

In 2013 and 2014 a race was organized on the sprint distance (0.75 km swimming, 20 km cycling and 5 km running): In 2013 there were two distances and in 2014 there was no race on the Olympic distance.

In this race, the Lower Austrian state championships triathlon are organized in different classes every year.

In July 2017 it was the 23rd event and Simone Fürnkranz was able to win the race on the Olympic distance for the sixth time.

The organization was carried out by the triathlon club TRV Krems until 2017 and taken over in 2018 by Bestzeit Veranstaltungs GmbH , which z. B. also organized the Ironman 70.3 Austria in St. Pölten. For 2019, the race in Krems was not announced, but instead the Traismauer Triathlon on August 4, 2019.

Route

  • The 1.5 km swim takes two laps in the Krems harbor basin.
  • The cycle route over 40 km leads as a turning point into the Kremstal to Untermeisling and from there back to the banks of the Danube.
  • The running distance of 10 km is completed over four laps along the Danube and the "Treppelweg" and the destination is again in the area of ​​the industrial port area.

Course records

  • The track record has been held since 2010 by the Tyrolean Franz Höfer with his winning time of 1:44:39 h.
  • In the women ended Eva Wutti from Carinthia in 2013 h as the fastest woman after 1:59:44 the race in Krems.
