Maja Stage Nielsen (born July 24, 1988 in Esbjerg ) is a Danish triathlete . She is vice European champion in the triathlon middle distance (2016) and the duathlon long distance (2016).

Career

Maja Stage Nielsen started playing golf at the age of ten and played for Denmark in the Ladies European Golf Tour in 2006 and 2007 .

She started for the first time in 2005 as a 17-year-old at the Triathlon World Championships on the long distance in Fredericia, Denmark and finished in 30th place (Double Olympic, O2: 3 km swimming, 80 km cycling and 20 km running).

Maja Stage Nielsen lived in Lanzarote since 2009 and worked there as a golf teacher.

State champion duathlon and triathlon 2014

Stage Nielsen has been a professional athlete since 2014 and became national duathlon champion in May. In July she also became the Danish state champion in the triathlon middle distance and was able to successfully defend this title in 2015.

Vice European Champion 2016 and 2017

In May 2016 she became vice European champion on the long distance duathlon and in September also vice European champion on the triathlon half distance. Just three weeks later she started her first Ironman long distance race on Mallorca (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running) and came second in Alcúdia, Spain .

In June 2017, as part of the Challenge Herning in Denmark , she was again runner-up in triathlon in the middle distance, as in the previous year. In July 2018, the then 29-year-old finished fifth at the ITU World Championship on the long-distance triathlon. At the Ironman Lanzarote , she finished second in May 2019.

Maja Stage Nielsen lives again in her native Esbjerg and is trained by Faris Al-Sultan .
