Samantha McGlone (born July 19, 1979 in St. Catharines ) is a former Canadian triathlete . She is an Olympian (2004), won the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in 2006 and the Ironman Arizona in 2009 .

Career

As a teenager, Samantha McGlone started rowing for the Canadian national team and took part in a triathlon for the first time in 1997.

2004 Summer Olympics

In 2004 she started for Canada at the Olympic Games in Athens, where she finished 27th.

In 2006 she won the Ironman 70.3 World Championships.
In the following year she came in only four weeks after finishing second at the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii only six minutes behind the British Chrissie Wellington , and also at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in second place. At the Ironman Hawaii 2008, she canceled her start at short notice due to an injury.

In November 2009 she won the Ironman Arizona with a new course record. In the same year she was fifth at the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii. Then McGlone, who had previously been coached by Cliff English since 1999 , announced that her new coach was now Matt Dixon , who also looked after Chris Lieto , Luke Bell , Meredith Kessler , Linsey Corbin , James Cotter and Rachel Joyce .

After struggling with injuries for several years, she began studying at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in 2012 and declared her professional career ended in January 2013.
