Pauli Kiuru (born December 8, 1962 in Valkeakoski ) is a former Finnish triathlete . He is a multiple Ironman winner and runner-up in Ironman Hawaii (1993).
Career
Pauli Kiuru was one of the first Europeans who was able to stage himself internationally on the long distance triathlon in the 1980s and 1990s.
"Mr. Polar ”, as it was also called, achieved eight victories in the Ironman distance (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running) - the last time in October 1994.
3rd place ETU European Championship Long Distance 1987
In 1987 and again ten years later in August 1997 he was third at the ETU long distance European championship .
In March 1990, he won the Ironman New Zealand in a very tight decision after 8:39:12 a.m. in the final sprint - only a tenth of a second ahead of the American Ken Glah .
In 1990 and 1991 he was also able to win the Ironman Europe (Ironman European Championships) in Roth .
In 1992 he became national champion in the short and middle distance triathlon as well as duathlon state champion (short distance).
2nd place Ironman World Championships 1993
After Pauli Kiuru finished third in Hawaii in 1990 and 1992, he finished second at the Ironman Hawaii in 1993 .
In 1998, the then 35-year-old announced his retirement from competitive sports.
Since 2011 Pauli Kiuru has been a member of the Pirkanmaa constituency for the National Assembly Party in the Finnish Parliament .

- In 1997 he was the first athlete to be nominated for the Australia Hall of Fame .
