Best list of triathletes on the Ironman distance
The best list of triathletes on the Ironman distance includes all times under 8:45 hours, those of triathletes (amateurs and professionals) worldwide in a triathlon over the long distance or Ironman distance (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km run). (As of March 28, 2020)
Times under 8:45 hours
This list contains all results of athletes who finished the race with a time under 8:45 hours. Multiple answers are therefore also possible. The results of the men can be found in the best list of the triathletes on the Ironman distance .
World records are generally not held in triathlon because of the variability of the route profiles, and there is no mandatory official measurement of the competition distances. Even the running routes of the major long-distance races are not measured with the Jones counter . Therefore, the following best times should always be assessed with an uncertainty about the length of the route.
In general, different routes are difficult to compare, even with the same route length, as local conditions such as climate, winds, (ocean) currents and the elevation profile can have a much stronger influence. The routes in Hawaii and Lanzarote are very demanding, which can also be seen from the best times there. Despite the high performance density of the athletes, these are always above the best times on the continental routes. The route of the Challenge Roth in the Franconian Roth , however, has proven over the years as the world's fastest race at this distance. Competitions in which only one duathlon was held due to weather conditions or partial distances were greatly shortened are not taken into account.
World best times for women
Paula Newby-Fraser set a new long-distance record at Ironman Europe in Roth in 1994 with 8:50:53 h and was the world record holder in the Ironman series for over 14 years.
A new world best time of the Ironman series for women with 8:33:56 h was set in 2011 at the Ironman South Africa by the British Chrissie Wellington . She also set the record in the long distance in Roth ( Challenge Roth ) , which is not part of the Ironman series, in 2009, which she improved to 8:18:13 in July 2010 (08:19:13 h) and 2011.
Chrissie Wellington, the world record holder, is currently five times among the 50 fastest times among women with her results. The Dutch, Yvonne van Vlerken , who lives in Austria , managed this seven times, the Austrian Eva Wutti and the British Rachel Joyce four times each and the Swiss Daniela Ryf five times.
The races of the Ironman and Challenge world series are included in this list . Results for shortened routes are not taken into account (as of March 28, 2020):
