Rachel McBride (born March 28, 1978 in Vancouver ) is a Canadian triathlete , national long-distance champion (2013) and multiple Ironman 70.3 winner. She is included in the best list of New Zealand triathletes on the Ironman distance .

Career

Rachel McBride only started running at the age of 24 and she started at the Berlin Marathon, which she finished after 3:32 h and where she qualified for the Boston Marathon.

In 2006 she started her first triathlon and only one year later in 2007 she became triathlon world champion on the short distance in the age group of 25 to 29 year olds (1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running).

Professional athlete since 2011

Rachel McBride has been a professional athlete since 2011. Because of her purple colored hair, her nickname is "Purple Tiger". She is known to be a very fast cyclist. In 2013 she was third at the Triathlon World Championship on the long distance and in September 2016 she was able to repeat this success.

In November 2016 she finished her first Ironman in Mexico (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running) and in July 2017 the 39-year-old finished third at Ironman Canada.

In March 2020, after 9:10:06 h, she finished fourth in Ironman New Zealand with a personal best .
