Leaderboard of the triathletes on the Ironman distance
The best list of triathletes on the Ironman distance includes all times recorded by male triathletes (amateurs and professionals) worldwide in a triathlon over the long or Ironman distance (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running ) were achieved. (As of March 28, 2020)
Times under 8:00 hours
This list contains all results of athletes who finished the race with a time under 8:00 hours. Multiple answers are therefore also possible.
World records are generally not held in triathlon because of the variability of the route profiles, and there is no mandatory official measurement of the competition distances. Even the running routes of the major long-distance races are not measured with the Jones counter . Therefore, the following best times should always be assessed with an uncertainty about the length of the route.
In general, different routes are difficult to compare, even with the same route length, as local conditions such as weather conditions, climate, winds, (ocean) currents and the elevation profile can have a much stronger influence. The routes in Hawaii and Lanzarote are very demanding, which can also be seen from the best times there. Despite the high performance density of the athletes, these are always above the best times on the continental routes.
The route of the Challenge Roth in the Franconian Roth , however, has proven over the years as the world's fastest race at this distance. Competitions in which only one duathlon was held due to weather conditions or partial distances had to be shortened are not taken into account here.
World best times for men
In 2016, the German Jan Frodeno set the men's long-distance world best time of 7:35:39 hours at the Challenge Roth (long distance not part of the Ironman series). The American Matt Hanson with his time of 7:39:25 h has been the record holder within the Ironman series since April 2018. The Belgian Marino Vanhoenacker and the Australian Chris McCormack have already entered four times with a time below 8:00 h. The results of the women can be found in the best list of the triathletes on the Ironman distance .
This list includes all races and results of the Ironman and Challenge world series with times of less than eight hours. Results for shortened routes are not taken into account:
