Andrew Starykowicz (born April 14, 1982 in Chicago ) is an American triathlete . He is a two-time runner-up in the 20- to 24-year-old class (2004, 2005), two-time Ironman winner (2012, 2017) and he is included in the best list of American triathletes on the Ironman distance . With 3:54:59 he is the record holder for the fastest Ironman bike split and the first person to complete the sub-discipline in under 4 hours.

Career

Starykowicz started swimming at the age of 14, and he started cycling and running at 19. In 2004 he became triathlon vice world champion in the 20- to 24-year-old class and in 2005 he was able to repeat this success.

In October 2012, he finished second in the duathlon at the inaugural Rev3 Florida (1.5 mile run, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run).

Ironman winner 2012

In November 2012 he won the Ironman Florida at his first start on the Ironman distance (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running) .

In July 2015, he set a new course record for the bike distance at the Challenge Roth with 4:09:13 h, but after the final marathon he was only able to place in 105th place.

In August 2016, he was injured in an accident with a car while training. and in April 2017 he started again at Ironman Texas . In October, the then 35-year-old scored his second Ironman victory with a new course record at Ironman Louisville .

Andrew Starykowicz lives with his fiancée in Wauconda, Illinois. His nickname is Starky .
