Picasso Museum in Vallauris

In 1948 Pablo Picasso came to Vallauris, where he lived in the Villa Galloise until 1955. In his Atelier du Fournas , which was housed in a former perfume factory, he created a number of sculptures and paintings during this time, such as the pictures War and Peace from 1952, which are among his main works of this period. They can be viewed in the vestibule of the chapel that has been attached to the Picasso Museum. His bronze statue Man with the Sheep from 1950 is on display in Vallauris' market square. With the help of the printer Hidalgo Arnera, he made numerous linocuts .

As a citizen of the city, Picasso made a decisive contribution to the renewal of the artistic ceramics of Vallauris in the 1950s. As early as 1950 he was therefore made an honorary citizen of the city. In 1961 he married Jacqueline Roque , his second wife, in Vallauris Town Hall.

In Vallauris the “Biennale Internationale de Céramique Contemporaine” takes place regularly in the “Musée national Picasso La Guerre et la Paix”.
