La Roquette-sur-Siagne ( Provence La Roqueta de Sianha ) is a French municipality with 5390 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Alpes-Maritimes in the region Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur . La Roquette-sur-Siagne belongs to the Arrondissement of Grasse and is part of the canton of Mandelieu-la-Napoule . Its inhabitants are called Roquettans .
geography
La Roquette-sur-Siagne is located in the Vallée Grassoise between Cannes (four kilometers away) and Grasse (nine kilometers away) in the immediate vicinity of Mougins on the Siagne River . La Roquette-sur-Siagne is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Mouans-Sartoux in the north and north-west, Mougins in the east, Cannes in the south, Mandelieu-la-Napoule in the south-west and Pégomas in the west.
history
In 1026 some documents from Lérins Abbey mention the castrum Roquetta (i.e. Roquetta Castle). The castle was given to the abbot Aldebert, who was also Bishop of Antibes.
