Biot is a municipality in southeast France in the Alpes-Maritimes (06) department of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region with 9,733 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017). Together with Antibes , Mougins , Valbonne , Vallauris and twelve other municipalities, it forms the Sophia Antipolis municipal association . The city is best known for its glass blowing , for pottery with a typical shade of blue and for the Fernand Léger Museum .

The city is located in south-east France between Villeneuve-Loubet and Cannes . The historical core is concentrated at the top of a hill, while newer settlements, including Biot 3000, are located at the foot of the hill.

history

The area around Biot was probably first settled by Ligurians in the second century BC. The Roman consul Quintus Opimius conquered the city in 154 BC. BC and subordinated the region to the city of Antipolis , today's Antibes .
