Marbach is located between Rebstein and Altstätten and lies at the foot of the western slope of the Rhine Valley . Marbach is one of the small communities in the St. Gallen Rhine Valley, but has a relatively large community area, which extends to the Rhine Valley inland canal near Kriessern and to the canton border of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

The village image is characterized by single-family houses and has a historic village center northwest of the main street. The area in the Rhine Valley plain is characterized by a rural character and agriculture. On the slope, in the middle of the vineyards , is the historic Weinstein Castle , which has a restaurant and wine-growing business .

A company with a long tradition is the Kobelt cider factory , which produces Bartlis cider among other things . This term has an old tradition in the Rhine Valley and comes from a phrase ( knowing where Bartli gets the must ). The term Sura Most (also just juice ) describes fermented apple juice in the Rhine Valley , known elsewhere as cider .

In the agriculture dominate silage maize , but also sweet corn ( Rheintaler Ribelmais ) and carrots ( carrots ). The goat breeding cooperative Rheintal-Werdenberg is based in Marbach.

traffic

Marbach is on Hauptstrasse 13 and has no direct connection to the A13 . In the middle of the community, a side road branches off to the east as a connection to Kriessen, which ensures the connection to the Swiss motorway network. The Bergstrasse branches off in a north-westerly direction, which has a connection to the Heidenerstrasse coming from Altstätten and ensures the road connection to the Appenzell Vorderland . The connection to the SBB is via the Rebstein-Marbach train station , which is exactly on the border between the two communities of Marbach and Rebstein . Marbach is served by public transport on bus route 301 of the RTB Rheintal Bus . This operation is the successor to the Altstätten – Berneck trolleybus , which was discontinued in 1977 , and which in turn replaced the Altstätten – Berneck tram that opened in 1897 in 1940 .

schools

Primary level

Until 1971, Marbach knew the separation into a Catholic and Protestant primary school. In 1972 the two schools in the Feld schoolhouse of the Catholic School were merged and Marbach has been running the primary school community on an equal footing since then. Initially, five apprenticeships for grades 1 to 6 as well as one for the final class and two for manual labor and housekeeping started.

Upper school

Until 1992 Marbach belonged to the secondary school community of Upper Rhine Valley. In 1992 the primary school community of Marbach and Rebstein left the secondary school community of the Upper Rhine Valley. A new upper school community (Rebstein-Marbach) was founded. The secondary school "Sonnental" in Rebstein was able to acquire this from the secondary school community of Upper Rhine Valley. After an extension in 1994, the real classes from Marbach and Rebstein were also moved to the new school building. Six years later, due to the increasing number of students, another extension was necessary.
