Map with all coordinates: The main road 13 is a main road in the Swiss cantons of Schaffhausen , Zurich , Thurgau , St. Gallen , Graubünden and Ticino . The main road begins at the German border near Trasadingen on the federal highway 34 and ends at Strada Statale 34 on the Italian border near Brissago . It is part of the European route E 54 between the Trasadingen / Erzingen border crossing and the A4 near Schaffhausen . The total length of main road 13 is around 320 kilometers.
It runs from the Trasadingen / Erzingen border crossing on the German border via Neunkirch , the Galgenbuck tunnel near Neuhausen am Rheinfall , Schaffhausen and leads over a Rhine bridge to Feuerthalen . From there it follows the Swiss bank of the Rhine and the High Rhine via Diessenhofen to Stein am Rhein , along the Untersee via Steckborn to Lake Constance to Kreuzlingen . There it forms the main connection road along the Swiss shores of Lake Constance via Romanshorn , Arbon and Rorschach to St. Margrethen . Further up the Rhine Valley to Chur , over the San Bernardino Pass to Bellinzona and on to Locarno to the Italian border.
Between Arbon and Bellinzona Süd, it is supplemented by a motorway or road as the main traffic axis. Their route (via the higher quality roads) leads between Arbon and the Meggenhus junction via the A1.1, then to St. Margrethen via the A1 . From there, your route runs over the A 13 to the Bellinzona Nord junction and the short remaining section continues over the A2 .

Thurgau
Until 1803, Thurgau was a common rule that was administered jointly by the federal city-states. Since 1803, the newly founded canton of Thurgau has been able to dispose of its own tax revenue and decided on an extensive road construction program. In 1806, the government decided to build a road between the Schaffhausen canton border at Paradies and the Sankt Gallen canton border at Horn, which runs along the south bank of Lake Constance.
