This road connects La Chaux-de-Fonds with the Bernese Jura and Balsthal in the canton of Solothurn ; it is the shortest connection on this section.

history

Road construction in the Jura began in the 18th century under the rule of the Prince-Bishop of Basel, Jakob Sigismund von Reinach . In 1752 the first road between Court and Moutier was built, which was expanded to 7 meters wide in 1831. The new line from Renan to the Ciborg was built in 1820–1821 after an important watch industry had developed in the Bernese Jura. The Dünnerntalstrasse or Thalstrasse between Balsthal and Moutier was built between 1844 and 1845.

The road begins as a junction from main road 18 in La Cibourg near La Ferrière in the Bernese Jura, around five kilometers from La Chaux-de-Fonds. It leads over Saint-Imier to Sonceboz , passed the Pierre Pertuis , and through the Vallée de Tavannes and the Klus of Court BE is Moutier reached. From there it goes to the canton of Solothurn to Balsthal, where it joins the main road 12 leading to Oensingen .

The total length of this predominantly non-directional thoroughfare is around 74 kilometers.
