The main road 14 is a main road in the Swiss cantons of Schaffhausen , Zurich and Thurgau . The main road begins at the German border at the Oberwiesen / Stühlingen border crossing on federal highway 315 and ends at Romanshorn on Lake Constance .

It runs from the German border at Oberwiesen through the Galgenbuck tunnel at Neuhausen am Rheinfall to Schaffhausen , leads over a Rhine bridge to Feuerthalen , from there via Schlatt, Truttikon, Frauenfeld , Weinfelden and Amriswil to Romanshorn on Lake Constance . It will be replaced by the A7 motorway between the Frauenfeld West and Müllheim junctions . On the German-Swiss border, it crosses the Wutach river between Stühlingen and Schleitheim .

history

Road construction in northeastern Switzerland began relatively late.

Schaffhausen

Road construction in the direction of Schaffhausen began on Baden territory as early as 1755, while road construction on the Schaffhausen side was neglected for a long time. In 1816–1819 the road from Schaffhausen over the Siblingerhöhe to Schleitheim was expanded into a modern artificial road ( Chaussee ). In 1868 a new Wutach Bridge was built, and in 1868–1876 the route over the Siblingerhöhe was transformed into a serpentine road. From 1905 to 1964 the Schaffhausen – Schleitheim tram ran on this main road.

Thurgau

Until 1803, Thurgau was a common rule , i.e. a subject area that was administered jointly by the federal city-states. The newly founded canton of Thurgau has had its own tax revenue since 1803 and decided on an extensive road construction program. In 1810 the government decided to build a road between Paradies and Frauenfeld. In 1811 the decision was made to build a road from Frauenfeld via Weinfelden and Amriswil to Romanshorn.
