Further on H19

The main road 6 is a main road in Switzerland .

This road leads from Boncourt in the canton of Jura through the Jura and the Bernese Mittelland into the Bernese Oberland and over the Grimsel Pass to Gletsch in the canton of Valais .

The main road is only of secondary importance on many sections for motorized individual traffic, as the transit traffic on the section to Meiringen mainly uses the Transjurane A16 and the Autobahn 6 . On the remnants there and in the remaining sections, the traffic runs on the main road 6. Between Biel and La Heutte , the main road has four lanes. It is the only road there that is open to cyclists and agricultural traffic, but also represents the connection between two sections of the A 16.

The road starts in Boncourt as a continuation of of Belfort from coming Department Street 19. It takes the Jura along to Porrentruy in the Jura capital Delémont . From Moutier in the Bernese Jura , the main road continues to Biel / Bienne . Lake Thun is reached in Thun via Lyss and Bern . The road runs south of Lake Thun and north of Lake Brienz to Brienz and Meiringen . There the road leads as an alpine pass road to the Grimsel pass at 2165  m above sea level. M. up. In Gletsch , the road joins Hauptstrasse 19 , on which traffic reaches the Furka Pass .

The total length of this mainly non-directional thoroughfare is around 251 kilometers.
