former Reconvilier local authority

Reconvilier was an agricultural village until the middle of the 19th century , after which it quickly developed into an industrial community. Today only 3% of the employed work in agriculture. With industrialization , machine and watch factories settled in the village. The Boillat foundry has played an important role since 1855, and the plant, which today belongs to the non-ferrous metal group Baoshida Swissmetal, offers around 400 jobs. In February 2006, Reconvilier was the center of a labor dispute that was extraordinarily violent by Swiss standards over the planned closure of the foundry.

In Reconvilier there is an important agricultural market on the first Monday of September, the so-called Foire de Chaindon .

traffic

The community has good transport links. It is located on the busy main road from Delémont to Tavannes. By 2015, the A16 motorway is to be built in the Vallée de Tavannes, which will connect the Swiss national road network with the French motorway network. The Reconvilier and Tavannes bypass is expected to open around 2012. On December 16, 1876, the Court to Tavannes railway was inaugurated with a station in Reconvilier. The village is also served by the bus route from Tavannes via Bellelay to Lajoux and Les Genevez .

history

As early as Roman times , an important road led from Aventicum ( Avenches ) over the pass from Pierre Pertuis to Augusta Raurica , which also crossed the municipality of Reconvilier. The village is one of the oldest in the Vallée de Tavannes. It was first mentioned in writing as early as 884 under the name Roconis villare as a property of the Moutier-Grandval Abbey. The names Roconovillare (962) and Reconwilier (1181) appear later ; There are also several German forms of name passed down: Reckwiler , Rokwiler and Rogwiler . The place name probably goes back to the Germanic personal name Roca .

Reconvilier was donated to Bellelay Abbey in 1225 . On April 12, 1777, a village fire destroyed numerous houses. From 1797 to 1815 Reconvilier belonged to France and was initially part of the Mont-Terrible department , which was linked to the Haut-Rhin department in 1800 . By the decision of the Congress of Vienna , the place came to the canton of Bern to the district of Moutier in 1815 .

Attractions

The current structure of the Reformed Parish Church of Chaindon was built in 1739. It stands on the foundations of the medieval predecessor building of the Saint-Léonard chapel mentioned in 962. The church, renovated between 1924 and 1926, has a valuable organ from 1850 and a bell from Bellelay Abbey. Until 1928 Tavannes and Reconvilier formed the parish of Tavannes-Chaindon, since then the parish has been called Reconvilier-Chaindon. The schoolhouse with bell tower was built in 1912 in the local style.
