Coordinates: 47 ° 12 ' N , 7 ° 13' E ; CH1903: 583,208 / 228031 The Administrative District Bernese Jura ( French Arrondissement du administratif Jura bernois ) in the Canton of Bern was on January 1, 2010 to the previous office districts Courtelary , Moutier and La Neuveville founded.
It belongs to the administrative region of Bernese Jura , of which it is the only district, and comprises 40 communities on 541.73 km² with a total of 53,721 inhabitants (December 31, 2018). 83.0% of the residents are French-speaking, 10.2% German-speaking and 2.5% Italian-speaking (as of 2000).
On November 24, 2013, a vote was taken in the Bernese Jura and the canton of Jura as to whether the Bernese Jura should remain with the canton of Bern or form a new canton with the current canton of Jura . Each municipality was able to vote individually again afterwards with the potential result of enclaves and a division of the administrative district. With the exception of the municipality of Moutier , which supported the project, 71.8 percent of the entire Bernese Jura decided against a merger with the canton of Jura.
