history

Viaduct at the entrance to the village

The village was first mentioned in writing in 1181 as Corcellis . The place name goes back to the Latin word corticella ( small courtyard ). The village was probably founded by German-speaking farmers. It was under the Moutier-Grandval provost until the end of the 18th century . From 1797 to 1815 Corcelles belonged to France and was initially part of the Mont-Terrible department , which was linked to the Haut-Rhin department in 1800 . By the decision of the Congress of Vienna , the place came to the canton of Bern to the district of Moutier in 1815 . Since 1967 there has been a communal cooperation between the Cornet communities regarding water supply, wastewater treatment and primary school.

Attractions

In the town center there are still some characteristic farmhouses from the early 17th century. The hammer forge, built in 1791, was extensively renovated and converted into a museum from 1987 to 1993. Corcelles does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish of Grandval . A hiking trail leads through the impressive Gore Virat gorge on the Raimeux de Crémines.
