Monible is a village in the municipality of Petit-Val , which belongs to the Bernese Jura administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland .
Until December 31, 2014 Monible was an independent political municipality . On January 1, 2015, Monible merged with the municipalities of Châtelat , Sornetan and Souboz to form the new municipality of Petit-Val .
geography
Monible lies at 862 m above sea level. M. , 13 kilometers west of Moutier (beeline). The farming village is located on an isolated, forest-free hill north of the upper Sorne , in a valley widening in the Chain Jura , which is also called the Petit Val .
The area of the 3.4 km² former municipal area includes a section of the Petit Val on both sides of the Sorne, which drains the valley basin to the Birs . The 70 m high hill of Monible rises in this basin. In the south, the area extends to the northern slope of the Moron Jura range (up to 1010 m above sea level ). To the north, the former municipality extends to the level of Prés Jean de Souboz , which connects to the Pichoux Gorge to the west. On this chain is 1075 m above sea level. M. reached the highest point of Monible. In 1997, 1% of the former municipal area was accounted for by settlements, 51% for forests and woodlands and 48% for agriculture.
Several individual farms belong to Monible. The neighboring communities of Monible are Rebévelier in the canton of Bern and Undervelier in the canton of Jura .

With 36 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2013), Monible was the smallest municipality in Bern and one of the ten smallest municipalities in Switzerland. 88.6% of the residents are French-speaking and 11.4% German-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Monible was 132 in 1850, compared to 72 in 1900. After another marked decrease, the low was reached in 1960 with 27 people. Since then a slight increase in population has been recorded.
economy
Monible lives from agriculture , whereby the dairy industry and cattle breeding are mainly important, there are also fruit trees near the houses . There are no jobs in the village outside the primary sector.
traffic
The former municipality is located off the main thoroughfares, above the cantonal road that leads from Tavannes via Bellelay through the Pichoux Gorge into the Delsberg Basin near Bassecourt . Monible has no connection to the public transport network. The next stop for the Tavannes - Lajoux - Les Genevez postbus course is in Bellelay .
history
The village was under the Moutier-Grandval provost until the end of the 18th century . From 1797 to 1815 Monible belonged to France and was initially part of the Mont-Terrible department , which was connected to the Haut-Rhin department in 1800 . By the decision of the Congress of Vienna , the place came to the canton of Bern to the district of Moutier in 1815 .
Until December 31, 2014 Monible was an independent municipality .
Attractions
The location and the appearance of Monible are reminiscent of a Provencal mountain village when viewed from the cantonal road. The structure of the relatively small farms dates from the 18th and 19th centuries.
