Valbirse is a merged municipality in the canton of Bern , Switzerland , which was created on January 1, 2015 . The new political municipality in the Bernese Jura is made up of the former municipalities of Bévilard ( FSO number 682), Malleray ( FSO number 697), and Pontenet (FSO number 702).
history
The municipality of Valbirse was created on January 1, 2015 through the merger of the previously independent municipalities of Bévilard , Malleray , and Pontenet . The Valbirse merger project originally also included the municipalities of Champoz , Court and Sorvilier , but they withdrew from it at different times.
population
With 3975 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018) Valbirse is the fourth largest municipality in the Bernese Jura after Moutier , Saint-Imier and Tramelan .
politics
The legislature of the municipality of Valbirse is formed by a municipal parliament ( conseil général ) with 30 members. After La Neuveville, Valbirse is the second smallest municipality in the canton in which this task is not performed by the municipal assembly.
The executive is made up of the seven-person municipal council , which also includes the municipality president. The mayor is Paolo Annoni ( FDP , as of 2018).
The voting shares of the parties at the 2015 National Council election were: SVP 38.8%, SP 26.7%, FDP 9.4%, EDU 6.2%, EVP 4.3%, BDP 3.7%, GPS 3.1 %, CVP 2.8%, glp 2.3%, PdA 1.6%.
