Perrefitte is a municipality in the Bernese Jura administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland . The former German names Beffert and Pfeffert are no longer used today.

Perrefitte is 600  m above sea level. M. , 2 km west of Moutier (beeline). The former farming village extends to the west of the Jura Long Valley of Moutier, in the chain Jura , on the left northern side of the Chalière stream , which flows into the Birs at Moutier .

The area of ​​the municipal area of ​​8.7 km² includes the westernmost part of the Grand Val (valley of Moutier), which is drained by the Chalière. The Combe Fabet , a ravine-like side valley of the Chalière, is sunk into the southern slope of the valley. With 463 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018) Perrefitte is one of the medium-sized communities in the Bernese Jura . 84.2% of the residents are French-speaking, 9.2% German-speaking and 2.9% Italian-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Perrefitte was 236 in 1850 and 419 in 1900. After a peak around 1970 with around 570 inhabitants, an overall downward trend has since been recorded.

Perrefitte was characterized by agriculture for a long time . In the course of the industrialization of Moutier, some smaller businesses settled on the Chalière on the border with Moutier. In the last few decades Perrefitte has developed into a residential community. Many workers are commuters and work in Moutier.

The municipality is located on the cantonal road that leads from Moutier via Souboz into the Petit Val and on to Bellelay . With the construction of the A16 motorway , which will connect the Swiss national road network with the French motorway network by 2016 , Perrefitte will also have a relatively close connection (“ Moutier-Ouest ”). The Postbus course , which runs from Moutier to Souboz , connects Perrefitte to public transport.

The first written mention of the village took place in 1295 under the name Pierefite . In 1321 the name Perefiten appears , later Pierefetteau and in 1548 Pierrefette . The place name goes back to the Latin petra ficta 'shaped stone'. The village was under the Moutier-Grandval provost until the end of the 18th century . From 1797 to 1815 Perrefitte belonged to France and was initially part of the Mont-Terrible department , which was linked to the Haut-Rhin department in 1800 . By decision of the Congress of Vienna , the place came to the canton of Bern to the district of Moutier in 1815 .

Attractions

In the older town center there are still some typical farmhouses and two-story granaries from the 17th and 18th centuries. Ecclesiastically, Perrefitte belongs to the parish of Moutier.
