The planned A 25 motorway feeder , also known as the Appenzellerland motorway feeder , should enable the two Appenzell to connect to the A1 . It is part of the national road  25.

The A25 is to begin at the Gossau Ost junction to be built , which is located at the Gossau Ost / St. Gallen Winkeln industrial area . There the connection to the A1 is guaranteed. The road should lead through the Wachtenegg tunnel to Herisau, then through the Nieschberg tunnel and end in front of Waldstatt .

The project was drawn up by the Ausserrhoden government and handed over to the federal government in 2008; the costs are estimated at CHF 500 million. The road, as it is a national road, is to be financed by FEDRO . The federal government bought soil "in the Gossau Ost / Winkeln industrial area in order to secure the line." The final decision of the federal government is awaited.
