Course of the road

The national road 28 leads from Landquart through the Prättigau to the loading station Klosters-Selfranga of the Vereina tunnel and is part of the main road 28 . As a national road , it is a federally owned road. The main road on this section is sometimes referred to as the “National Road A28” . After the opening of the Küblis bypass in summer 2016, the road is largely finished.
Destination of the national road 28
The Prättigaustrasse was added to the national road network in January 2002. As a winter-safe connection to the Lower Engadine , it is of national importance. As a national road, expensive engineering structures such as the Saas bypass tunnel with the Sunniberg bridge are 92% financed by the federal government. In the final stage of development it is a mixed national road, second and third class. Due to its standard of construction, it retains its character as a main street and thus the blue signage and thus remains vignette-free.
In official correspondence from the Federal Roads Office , it is written in some places from the A28 (Autostrasse or Alpenstrasse).
course
The course of the road can be divided into three sections. The first section was opened in the 1980s and 1990s and runs from Landquart to Fideris . The line between Fideris and Dalvazza has not yet been expanded. The route between Küblis and Klosters was expanded bit by bit after the turn of the millennium.
Landquart – Fideris
The Prättigaustrasse has started directly at the Landquart motorway exit of the A13 since 1994 . As a bypass from Landquart, the road leads through the Klus into Prättigau . The bypasses of Grüsch , Schiers and Jenaz were built in the 1990s and earlier. In this section it is forbidden to drive on the road through slow traffic . The old main road , now a side road , runs parallel to the current, developed, main road through the villages and henceforth serves as an alternative route for agricultural traffic, bicycles and smaller vehicles.
The Fideris - Küblis line is to be expanded by around 2035. For this purpose, the Rhaetian Railway line will be moved into a tunnel as part of STEP 2035 . The new main road will then be built on the freed railway line.
Fideris (Jenaz) -Dalvazza
The winding route between Fideris (Jenaz) and Dalvazza station, which runs outside the settlement area, has not yet been expanded. According to the 9th construction program for the completion of the national roads approved by the Federal Council in 2016, the route does not yet have an approved general project. The timing of the expansion is therefore still uncertain. To unbundle non-motorized traffic, a 3.6 km long cycle path was inaugurated on this route in 2011. Since then, the main road has also been closed to bicycles on this section. The cycle path is part of the Prättigau Route No. 21 from Veloland Switzerland .
Küblis – Selfranga
In order to reduce the noise pollution caused by the heavy through traffic and to reduce the number of curves, the route between Küblis and Selfrange was greatly expanded from the turn of the millennium. In June 2016, the last major expansion project was the Küblis bypass with the 2255 m long Küblis tunnel. This is followed immediately by the Saas bypass , which opened in 2011, with the 2577 m long Saas tunnel. The Pagrüeg – Mezzaselva section was completed in 2014. The Boden and Bödeli tunnels were not used for cost reasons. After the roundabout to Serneus , the road leads from the half-way connection between Klosters and Dorf to the Klosters bypass , which was opened in 2005. The road leads over the Sunnibergbrücke and the Gotschna tunnel directly onto the pass road in the direction of Wolfgangpass - Davos or to the Vereina car train .
