The main road 20 is a main road in the Swiss canton of Neuchatel . The main road begins at the French border at Le Locle on Route départementale  461 (1933–1973: Route nationale 461 ) and ends at Hauptstrasse 10 in Neuchâtel . It has a length of about 30 kilometers. The climb from La Chaux-de-Fonds to the Vue des Alpes Pass has four lanes.

Parts of the main road were replaced or replaced by the J20 motorway as the main connection.

history

Around 1800, a small section of the route between Neuchâtel and Valangin had already been expanded to include the road because it was connected to the Jura road network of the prince-bishops of Basel . The important traffic route between the industrial city of La Chaux-de-Fonds and the capital Neuchâtel was expanded into a road between 1807 and 1809.

Since 1995, the 3250 m long Vue des Alpes tunnel , which runs parallel to the H20 and is part of the J20 motorway , between Les Hauts-Geneveys and La Chaux-de-Fonds has relieved this section of the pass road and enables motorized individual traffic to have a safe winter connection.
