Cama is a municipality in the former Roveredo district in the Moesa district of the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland.
geography
The community is located in southern Misox on both sides of the Moësa and consists of the two districts of Al Punt and Norantola . Of the total municipal area of 1,506 ha, 905 ha are forest and wood, 498 ha unproductive area (mostly mountains), 63 ha agricultural land and 40 ha settlement area.
The Val Cama with its beautiful mountain lake Lago di Cama belongs to the municipality of Cama. The valley can only be reached on foot. Marked mountain paths lead from here over the Lago di Sambroc and the Bocchetta de Cressim into the Val d'Arbola ( Lostallo ), over the Bocchetta del Notar into the Italian Val Bodengo and over the Alpe Vazzola into the Val Leggia .
There are two private huts with a restaurant by the lake, which are open during the summer season. The Alps on Lago di Cama have recently been hit with cattle again. Until the middle of the 20th century, the crossings between Val Cama and Italy were often used by Italian smugglers. North of the Norantola fraction are the ruins of Norantola Castle .
Cama borders on Grono , Lostallo and Italy.
history
In the high court of Misox the village belonged to the middle squadra, ecclesiastically to the vicariate of Roveredo. The parish church of San Maurizio (mentioned in 1219) separated from the mother church of San Vittore in 1611 and was enlarged from 1656 to 1662 (barrel vault in the nave from 1860).

The number of residents increased sharply between 1826 and 1860, then stagnated for a decade and decreased due to emigration until 1888. In the second half of the 20th century, the population rose sharply and reached a peak in 2000. Since then the number of inhabitants has decreased slightly.

In 1990 five people named Portuguese and three people French as their main language; In 2000, eleven people each stated Portuguese and Serbo-Croatian and four people said French as their main language.
Religions - denominations
Originally the entire population was Roman Catholic. This has changed as a result of leaving the church and immigration from other regions. However, even now the vast majority is still Catholic. In 2000 there were 86.50% Roman Catholic, 3% Evangelical Reformed and 1% each Christian Catholic and Orthodox Christians. There are also 3% non-denominational and 1.27% Muslim. 4% of the population gave no information about their creed.
Origin - nationality
Of the 459 residents at the end of 2004, 388 (= 84%) are Swiss citizens. At the last census, 82% were Swiss nationals. 15 of them were dual citizens. The largest groups of immigrants come from Italy and Portugal.
Attractions
- The Catholic Parish Church of San Maurizio
- I Grotti: The Cama grottos are historic wine cellars west of the village along the "Cammino del Gusto" educational trail. The around 50 small, one to two-story stone buildings form a settlement in the chestnut grove and are several centuries old. They were used to store wine, cheese, sausages and milk. Today you can try local specialties there.
