Castaneda is a municipality in the Moesa region in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland .

Castaneda lies on a terrace in the southern Calancatal 500 meters above the confluence of the Calancasca with the Moësa . Of the entire municipal area of ​​394 hectares, 302 hectares are covered by forest and wood. Another 61 hectares are unproductive areas, mostly mountains. Only 15 hectares are agricultural land and 16 hectares are settlement areas.

Castaneda borders Buseno , Grono , Roveredo GR , Santa Maria in Calanca and Verdabbio .

history

The village is the first community at the entrance to the Calanca valley . Their area was settled as early as the first Iron Age. The finds are in the Rätisches Museum in Chur , the Landesmuseum Zurich and the British Museum in London .
