The Rhaetian Museum ( Rhaeto-Romanic Museum retic , Italian Museo retico ) is a museum in Chur . It is located in the old town and is also called the Bündner Historisches Museum . The Rhaetian Museum shows 100,000 exhibits from all epochs of Graubünden's cultural history and is owned by the Canton of Graubünden .

history

The baroque patrician house in which the museum is housed was built in 1675 by Paul von Buol-Strassberg . The imperial baron belonged to the ruling class in the Free State of the Three Leagues.

The founding of the museum at the end of the 19th century was related to the increasing migration of valuable cultural assets. The lawyer, historian and politician Peter Conradin von Planta established a foundation for the benefit of a “Bündnerisches Museum für Wissenschaft und Kunst”. Andreas Rudolf von Planta was also a founding member . On June 8, 1872, the museum was opened on the ground floor of the Buolschen House. Initially it comprised a library, a natural history and an ancient collection. The Antikensammlung is currently no longer being continued. They and all other museum pieces that are no longer relevant to the exhibition are stored in the cultural property protection room in Haldenstein .

The collection on the history of Graubünden comprises almost 100,000 objects, around a tenth of which are on display in Haus Buol. The "Object of the Month" is intended to give an insight into the collection of the Rhaetian Museum. A selected item from the collection is presented in the foyer of the Rätisches Museum.
