Santa Maria in Calanca is a municipality in the Moesa region in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland .

geography
Sta. Maria in Calanca (also Santa Maria di Calanca ) is to Castaneda the second village of Calanca . It is located on a hill at the valley exit. The character of the village is shaped by Ticino. At the end of 2007, 107 people lived here.
Sta. Maria is one of the starting points of the Calanca high path.
history
The village was first mentioned in 1219 under the then name sancte Marie in Calanca . Old castle, called Torre Santa Maria by the valley dwellers . The tower is said to have been of Roman origin and one of the towers of the chain of posts on the old Roman road. From here the Roman administrator Bonasius 402 is said to have beaten and blown up the Goths who had penetrated over the Vogelberg (San Bernhardin) with the valley people at the Gola bridge .
