Santa Domenica was an independent municipality in the former District Moesa , Kanton Graubünden in Switzerland .

geography

The village lies at an altitude of 1035 m above sea level. M. at the east foot of Piz da Termin (2903 m above sea level) and on the right bank of the Calancasca; two and a half kilometers south of Rossa and 25 kilometers north of the Bellinzona station of the Swiss Federal Railways .

history

The village was first mentioned in 1414. Until 1796, Santa Domenica belonged to the municipality of Calanca, from 1796–1851 to the Inner Calanca; In 1851 the village became independent.

Community merger

In 1982 Santa Domenica and the formerly independent municipality of Augio merged with the municipality of Rossa to form the new political municipality of Rossa .

Attractions

  • Catholic parish church of Santa Domenica and ossuary. The parish church is one of the most important baroque churches in Graubünden; it was built from 1664 to 1672 by the architect Giovanni Serro on a previous building from 1414 and is richly decorated with frescoes by Francesco Antonio Giorgioli .
