Rebstein is a political municipality in the cultural landscape of the St. Gallen Rhine Valley in the canton of St. Gallen in eastern Switzerland . Politically, Rebstein belongs to the Rheintal constituency .
geography
As part of the St. Gallen Rhine Valley , Rebstein is located in the Alpine Rhine Valley region . The municipality extends from the Rheintaler inland canal in the east to the border of the Appenzeller Vorderland in the west. The neighboring communities are Balgach in the north, Marbach SG in the south, Reute AR in the west and Oberriet in the east. The village center lies on the slopes of the Appenzell Pre-Alps. The highest point is north-east in the Lom at a good 680 meters above sea level below Sturzenhard (726 meters above sea level). To the north of it, the Rappentobel forms the border with the municipality of Balgach. To the south, Rebstein merged almost seamlessly with Marbach and to the north with Balgach. In the east the Rheintaler inland canal (short inland canal ) forms the border. The deepest area of Rebstein is 407 m. ü. M., between the Rietaach and the inland canal.
Waters
In addition to the inland canal, the Länderach is an important drainage canal that flows through the plain in Rebstein. Coming from Marbach it flows through Balgach to Widnau where it finally reaches the inland canal. The Rebsteiner Bach (also Räbster Bach ) flows through Rebstein . It rises in Oberegg (Ramstel) as Schlipfkrapfen Bach and flows on the Kalbwoad (407 mü.M) in the countries Aach .
Like all municipalities in the Alpine Rhine Valley, Rebstein has a strong connection to the Alpine Rhine .

Of the population, 1,827 were single, in 2019 married or in a registered partnership, 241 widowed or in partnerships dissolved by death and 407 divorced, unmarried or in partnership dissolved by a court.

Religions - denominations
Today's Catholic Church of St. Sebastian from 1960 was built by the architect Fritz Metzger and stands in the same place as the previous building, which was built in 1886 and which was destroyed in a fire in 1956. The reformed church was built in 1782. The Islamic-Albanian community "Al-Shems" has existed in Rebstein since the 1990s. The Al-Shems mosque is visited by Muslims from the St. Gallen Rhine Valley region.
economy
Originally, Rebstein - hence the place name - was mainly cultivated with vines , before it was superseded by embroidery in the 19th century . After the amelioration of the Rhine plain in 1941–1953, productive areas became available and agriculture and trade were able to settle on the plain. Today viticulture is carried out on a total of 3 hectares.
The Brewery Sun , the last private brewery in the St. Gallen Rhine Valley, is located in Rebstein. With the company Züco , one of Europe's leading manufacturers of office swivel chairs and seating furniture, has its headquarters in Rebstein.
traffic
Rebstein is accessible by rail via the Rebstein-Marbach train station. Rebstein is served by the bus route 301 of the RTB Rheintal Bus . This is the successor to the Altstätten – Berneck trolleybus , which was discontinued in 1977 and which in turn replaced the Altstätten – Berneck tram that opened in 1897 in 1940 .
