Gian Michele Graf (born July 14, 1962 ) is a Swiss mathematical physicist. He is a professor at the ETH Zurich .

Graf studied physics and mathematics at the ETH Zurich, where he obtained his diploma under Jürg Fröhlich in 1986 and received his doctorate in 1990 under Walter Hunziker . Afterwards he was Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Caltech and from 1992 Assistant Professor of Theoretical Physics at ETH, where he received a full professorship in 2001.

In 1995/96 he was at the Institute for Advanced Study .

In 1992 he was a Sloan Fellow . In 1998 he was invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Berlin ( Stability of Matter in classical and quantized fields ).

He dealt with fundamental thermodynamic properties of matter (in particular questions from the area of the problem of the stability of matter according to Elliott Lieb and others, where he worked with Jürg Fröhlich ), many-particle scattering processes in quantum mechanics, quantum pumps and various problems in solid state physics such as the Quantum Hall Effect and Topological Insulators .

Graf is a citizen of Lugano and Rebstein .
