Chez Ashton is a fast food restaurant chain that is only located in Québec , Canada or the immediate vicinity. The chain specializes in different variations of the national dish poutine , but also sells other fast food dishes.
history
The first restaurant, Chez Ashton , was founded in 1969 by founder Ashton Leblond when he was 21 years old. At that time he had bought a caravan for 5000 Canadian dollars , from which he sold his dishes at the intersection of Boulevard Hamel and rue Notre-Dame. At that point there was french fries , hamburgers , hot dogs and the like. The pressure of competition was very strong, which is why he added poutine to his menu for the first time in 1972 . He had the recipe for this from his home region in the center of the province of Quebec. In 1976 Ashton Leblond opened the first restaurant with seating near the first snack stand. More restaurants opened in the 1980s.
Apart from the poutine , the chain is also known for its advertising activity every January: during this month the price of the poutine falls in proportion to the temperature. A discount of 10% is granted for the entire month regardless of the temperature. The highest discount ever granted was in January 1997 and 2009. At a temperature of −33 degrees only one third of the price had to be paid.
The chain currently has 26 restaurants in the Québec (city) , Lévis and Saint-Georges (Québec) area . Two restaurants had opened in the Montréal area, but closed again very soon.
