Fritz Schedler

Fritz Schedler (born October 18, 1889 in Altstätten ; † May 17, 1937 in Rebstein ) was a Swiss composer.

Life

He grew up in the St. Gallen Rhine Valley and studied physics and philosophy in Zurich. Between 1912 and 1915 he lived in Berlin, where he studied composition with Philipp Rüfer . He worked as a pianist, bassist and violinist in various dance bands in the city and took part in the city's musical life. he attended the Sing-Akademie zu Berlin . Nevertheless, he was denied public performances of his works throughout his life. After the outbreak of the First World War he returned to Switzerland. From 1919 until his death in 1937 he worked as a teacher in St. Gallen and Rebstein SG and devoted himself to composing in his free time.

His largely unexplored musical work consists of many short songs and canons, mostly based on his own texts, as well as a number of musical-dramatic and oratorical compositions, all of which have remained fragments. His musical drama Both Wells , which has also remained a fragment and is of Wagnerian scope, should be regarded as the main work . Since 2012 the Sing-Akademie zu Berlin and the Liedertafel have been trying to get his vocal work performed for the first time and again.
