Züco headquarters in Rebstein

Züco Büroitzmöbel AG is a Swiss company manufacturing office swivel chairs and seating furniture with its headquarters in Rebstein , St. Gallen. With 50,000 chairs produced (2007), Züco is one of the largest manufacturers of office swivel chairs in Europe , which are exported to over 50 countries worldwide.

history

The origin of the company Züco was laid in 1921 by Karl Zünd, as this in the same year at the age of 27 years self- made. In the early years the company produced horse saddles, upholstered furniture, bedding, leather goods and sporting goods. After a few years, the company with 10 employees was one of the largest companies in Rebstein.

In 1951 there was a generation change. Karl Zünd, the company's founder, continued his business, of which the bed area still exists today. His sons Karl and Ludwig Zünd took over the upholstered furniture division and founded their own company called Karl Zünd & Co.

In 1957 the name Züco was introduced. In 1959 a second production facility was set up in Hohenems in order to also serve the Austrian market.

In the 1960s the company grew to 250 employees. During this time, the product range was expanded to include furniture for the hotel lobby area.

In the 1980s, more sales were achieved with office chairs than with the rest of the range. A strategic realignment became necessary and so it happened that Karl and Ludwig Zünd, both of whom were close to retirement age, sold their company to the office furniture manufacturer Lista .

In 1998 the Züco brand received a new owner with the Dauphin HumanDesign Group . In addition to Züco, Bosse Design , Dauphin and Trend Office are further components of the Dauphin Group.

Today, with 50,000 chairs produced (2007), Züco is one of the largest manufacturers of office swivel chairs in Europe, which are exported to over 50 countries worldwide. Despite the specialization on office swivel chairs, the promotion of innovative ideas, in cooperation and a. with architects, value. This is how, for example, the series 4+, Der Vorläufer or studies on sedan chairs came about through cooperation with the Liechtenstein University of Applied Sciences .

Architects by Züco

Züco has been promoting collaboration with architects since 2005. The Architects by Züco division was created for this purpose. The aim is to involve architects in the design process and to create an architecture collection designed by architects for architects .

4+

The starting shot for this project was given with the 4+ project , in which, together with Roland Zünd, three architects and one architect met for regular workshops over a period of 18 months and worked on the design of a holistic family of armchairs. In these 18 months a new range of chairs was created.

precursor

In the course of the "Styria's Next Chair Designer" competition , a competition for Styrian architects and designers organized by Züco and Creative Industries Styria , Manfred Wolff-Plottegg emerged as the winner with his design for the "forerunner" .
