history

Friedrich-Wilhelm Dauphin, business economist and the son of a teacher and a sales representative, took over the German branch of the British office chair manufacturer Evertaut together with his wife Elke Dauphin, who was a trained saleswoman, and began selling and importing the Evertaut chairs under the company name Evertaut International. In 1970 the company was renamed “Friedrich-W. Dauphin, sole importer Evertaut International ”. For a short time, production was also started in Ober-Roden near Rödermark. In 1973 the company's headquarters were relocated to Offenhausen near Nuremberg and the first own factory was built. This is where the patent for a swivel chair was created, which can be packaged to save space, shipped cheaply and simply put together conically on site. At the beginning of the 1980s the company was renamed "Büroitzmöbelfabrik Friedrich-W-Dauphin". After German reunification, the subsidiary Dauphin Components was founded in 1993, based in Pößneck, for the production of mechanisms for seating furniture and other components. Artifex Büromöbel GmbH in Neukirchen near Sulzbach-Rosenberg and with a branch in Günzburg is also an upholstery supplier to all companies in the Dauphin Group and is wholly owned by the Dauphin Holding. Dauphin Entwicklungs- und Beteiligungs GmbH, based in Hersbruck, is responsible for research and development projects.

In 1992 the family company was incorporated under the umbrella of the Dauphin office interiors GmbH & Co. KG holding and the Dauphin HumanDesign Group GmbH & Co. KG , founded in 2002, acts as a sales company for the corporate brands. In 1992, the company Bosse Design, founded by Günter Bosse in 1964, was taken over in Höxter - Stahle , and is a subsidiary for spatial structure systems. In 1998 the brand of Züco Büroitzmöbel AG in Rebstein , Switzerland is taken over. In spring 2002, the furniture system manufacturer MRD (modular room design) was taken over. At the end of 2003, the Trendoffice brand chair production in Günzburg was discontinued and relocated to the main factory in Offenhausen. On December 21, 2016, the co-founder of the company Elke Dauphin died and Friedrich-Wilhelm Dauphin also withdrew from the active day-to-day business and took over the chairmanship of the shareholders' committee and a management team took over the operational management.
