Neuparadies is a settlement in the municipality of Schlatt in the Swiss canton of Thurgau . Until January 1, 1999, Neuparadies belonged to the former political community of Unterschlatt , which on that day merged with Mett-Oberschlatt to form the community of Schlatt. The landmark of the district is a 40 meter high elevator test tower from 1955. In contrast to the older districts, Neuparadies does not have any designated cultural assets.

geography

Neuparadies borders in the northwest on Altparadies and in the north on the Schaarenwald . In the south lies the village of Unterschlatt and in the east the small town of Diessenhofen . The waters include the Schlatterbach, which flows into the Mülibach in the south of the district. To the east of the village, the Petribach separates from the Mülibach. The former flows into the Upper Rhine to the west and the latter to the east of Altparadies .

New and old paradise got their names from the Paradies monastery , which moved from Constance to Thurgau in the 1250s after a donation from the village of Schwarzach . In the decades that followed, the former Poor Clare Monastery expanded over the district and the Swarza / Schwarzach settlement, first mentioned in 876, disappeared.

In the 19th and 20th centuries, the industrial estate Neuparadies was built at Schlatt train station . Because of its location at the junction of the main road 13 on the main road 14 the place underwent significant development during the period of industrialization, while the monastic settlement Altparadies stagnated. In the 1930s, blocking points for Border Brigade 6 were created in the local area .

The major employers included a large brickworks north of the railway line and the "Aufzüge AG Schaffhausen". In 1955 they built a 40 meter high elevator test tower in which the most modern and fastest elevators in Switzerland were tested in 1959 . In the 1970s, “ Schindler Elevators ” took over the company. In 2001, Schindler stopped production - with 46 jobs most recently - in Neuparadies. There are plans to place the decommissioned test tower as a landscape-defining "landmark" and [...] an industrial and architectural-historical building of great originality and uniqueness under monument protection . The elevator manufacturer's premises are rented out to businesses and offices as the “Paradies commercial center”.
