Altparadies is a settlement in the municipality of Schlatt in the Swiss canton of Thurgau . Until 1998, Altparadies belonged to the then local community of Unterschlatt , which merged with Mett-Oberschlatt on January 1, 1999 to form the community of Schlatt.
Location
Altparadies borders the Upper Rhine in the north . In the west lies Langwiesen , which belongs to the canton of Zurich , in the east the Schaarenwald and in the southeast the district Neuparadies of the municipality Schlatt. Due to its location on main roads 13 and 14 as well as on the Schaffhausen – Kreuzlingen railway line , Altparadies experienced significant development during the period of industrialization.
history
The place got its name from the Paradies monastery , which moved from Constance to Thurgau in the 1250s after a donation from the village of Schwarzach . In the following years the former Poor Clare monastery expanded and the settlement Swarza , mentioned in a document in 876, disappeared.
