Hans J. Markowitsch

Hans Joachim Markowitsch (born March 26, 1949 in Singen ) is a German psychologist.

Markowitsch began studying psychology at the University of Konstanz in 1970 , which he graduated with a diploma in 1974. He then conducted research in the field of physiological psychology and was awarded a Dr. rer. nat. PhD. Markowitsch stayed on as a research assistant at the University of Konstanz and completed his habilitation in 1980. In 1981 he received - again at the University of Konstanz - a temporary professorship , which ended in 1985. In 1989 the Ruhr University Bochum appointed him professor for biopsychology, and since 1991 Markowitsch has held the chair for physiological psychology at Bielefeld University .

Markowitsch works primarily on the exploration of memory and takes a naturalistic position according to which personality is a product of the nervous system and the environment.
