Frank Froeba

Frank Froeba (born August 1907 in New Orleans ; † February 16, 1981 ) was an American pianist and band leader of New Orleans jazz .

Life

Froeba began his music career as a teenager in the bands of Johnny Wiggs and John Tobin . In 1924/25 he played with Johnny De Droit in New York City ; after that he led his own formation in Atlantic City in the second half of the decade . He also worked in various dance orchestras. Recordings were made in 1930 with Jack Purvis and in 1932 with Jack Bland ; from 1933 to 1935 he worked for Benny Goodman . From 1935 to 1944 he led his own band, with which he made records for Decca Records , including with Bunny Berigan , Artie Shapiro , Cozy Cole and Joe Marsala . He also made it into the Billboard Top 30 with three titles , with “The Music Goes Round and Round” (1935, # 7), the “Organ Grinder's Swing” (1936, # 12) and most recently in November 1936 with “It All Begins and Ends with You ”, which reached # 20.

In the 1930s and 1940s he served as the resident pianist in numerous Decca recording sessions; so he took part in recordings by Bob Howard and Lil Armstrong . He moved to Miami in 1955 and performed as an entertainment musician under the name Frank Froba.
