Julie Derron (born September 10, 1996 in Zurich ) is a Swiss triathlete , multiple Swiss and U23 European triathlon champion (2018) and the reigning European triathlon sprint distance champion (2019).

Career

Julie Derron grew up in a sporty family - her grandfather was already a Swiss swimmer.
Her two older sisters Nina Derron (* 1993) and Michelle Derron (* 1994) are also active as triathletes in the World Cup.

In August 2015 she became Swiss Junior Triathlon Champion and three weeks later she was also Vice Swiss Champion in the elite class. Julie Derron is trained by Brett Sutton and René Friedli (swimming coach) and starts in the Swiss Triathlon Elite B team .

In season 2018 they will start in the World Cup race series of the International Triathlon Union (ITU) and took on the Olympic distance (1.5 km swim, 40 km cycling and 10 km running) in May for the third race in Yokohama the 35th rank. In July 2018 she was runner-up in the Swiss triathlon sprint distance and three weeks later, the then 21-year-old finished sixth at the European sprint distance championship in Estonia. Your goal is a starting place at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

In the annual ranking of the ITU World Championship Series 2018 , after the last race in Australia in September, she finished 64th as the second best Swiss woman behind Nicola Spirig (27th place). In October she became the U23 European triathlon champion in Israel

In July 2019, the then 22-year-old became European champion triathlon sprint distance among the professionals in the elite class in Kazan (Russia). In July 2020, she injured herself while training in a fall with a bike and broke her shoulder blade.

Julie Derron studies food science at the ETH Zurich.
