Swiss Ice Skating Association

The Swiss Ice Skating Association (also called Swiss Ice Skating ) is the Swiss umbrella organization for ice skating . As such, he represents the sports of figure skating , ice dancing , synchronized figure skating , speed skating and short track . The association is based in Bern , where it operates a secretariat in the House of Sports of Swiss Olympic . Diana Barbacci Lévy has been president since 2018.

history

On February 17, 1911 , the Swiss Ice Skating Association was founded by some members of the St. Moritz Skating Association . In the same year the association joins the Swiss Olympic Committee (today Swiss Olympic) and the International Ice Skating Union . The ice skating clubs of Lausanne, Geneva and Adelboden were the first to join in 1913.

In 1919 in St. Moritz together the first Swiss Figure Skating Championships in individual race of men as well as the Swiss Speed Skating Championships Men performed. The women were in 1931 Zurich compete and two years later was in Engelberg and the pair skating introduced. The first ice dance competition was held in Lucerne in 1961 .

In 1947, Hans Gerschwiler was the first Swiss to win an international title at the World and European Championships. In pair skating, Silvia and Michel Grandjean won the European Championship in 1954. Denise Biellmann was able to build on the success of Gerschwiler in 1947 with her world champion title in 1981 and in 2005 and 2006 Stéphane Lambiel even became double world champion, silver medal Olympics 2006, Sarah Meier , European champion 2011.

In 1993, regular national short track championships also found their way into the competition calendar.

In addition to Swiss championships, the association also regularly organizes European and world championships in Switzerland. Since its inception, nineteen European and fifteen world championships have been held in Switzerland, with Davos being the venue for ten (EM) and eleven times (WM).
