The Swiss Hang Glider Association ( SHV ) is the umbrella organization for paragliding and delta sailing in Switzerland . The French and Italian abbreviations for the association name are FSVL - F éderation S uisse de V ol L ibre, F ederazione S vizzera di V olo L ibero. The purpose of the SHV is to promote and maintain environmentally friendly hang-gliding in all forms. The SHV is committed to top-class sport , promotes popular sport and safety .

history

The SHV was founded in 1974 as one of the first hang-gliding associations worldwide to represent the concerns of hang-gliding. For the first ten years the majority of the members were deltists . When the first series paragliders came on the market in 1986 and paragliding temporarily became a trend sport, the SHV experienced an enormous increase in membership within a short time. Today the SHV, with over 16,000 members, represents the air sport in Switzerland with the largest number of members . The SHV is a founding member of the European Hang and Paragliding Union EHPU . The SHV currently has over a hundred clubs and almost sixty "SHV flight schools" certified by the SHV.

organization

The SHV is financially self-sustaining, and both politically and financially independent. It consists of the following organs: General Assembly, Board of Directors, Presidents' Conference, Secretariat, Business and Audit Commission and Appeals Commission. The board consists of a minimum of five and a maximum of eleven voluntary members who are elected by the general assembly.

Areas of responsibility

The office in Zurich currently employs eleven people part-time and full-time to cover the following areas:

Safeguarding interests and legal matters

Interlocutors for the federal government, cantons, municipalities and landowners. Close relationships with the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) , Aerosuisse , Swiss Olympic , the Parliamentary Aviation Group, the Aero Club and other associations. The SHV provides its members with mandatory liability insurance for pilots in Switzerland, insurance for passenger pilots and flight schools, as well as legal support for clubs, flight schools and members belonging to the SHV.

Examination and Security

Through a cooperation agreement with the FOCA, the SHV is entrusted with all training questions and the entire examination system as well as the certification administration for hang-gliders in accordance with VLK Art. 7 Paragraph 6. In cooperation with experts and flight schools, the SHV actively promotes the quality of training through its own label "Flight School SHV", for flight schools that are quality-tested by the SHV, as well as further training courses for flight instructors and pilots.

Sports

In cooperation with the clubs, the SHV supports and promotes national and international competitions such as the Swiss Championships (SM) in the Delta , Paragliding and Acro divisions and the Cross Country Cup (CCC). He supports the national hang-gliding leagues materially and personally. In consultation with the associations / clubs, the SHV defines the regulations for the Cross Country Cup (CCC) and promotes and coordinates Swiss participation in international competitions.

public relation

Editing and publishing of the association magazine "Swiss-Glider", which appears ten times a year, with a WEMF- certified circulation of 14,000 copies. Information services for members, schools and clubs such as weather information, digital airspace data , NOTAM and KOSIF , as well as distribution of the ICAO glider chart and all the teaching material necessary to achieve hang-gliding certificates. The SHV continuously operates targeted media and public relations to provide information to interested groups and to promote young talent.

The German counterpart to the SHV is the German Hang Glider Association .
