The German Hang Glider Association e. V. (DHV) based in Gmund am Tegernsee is the German Paragliding Association and Hang Gliding Association. It is the largest paragliding and hang- gliding association in the world.

Tasks within the scope of the assignment

The DHV is in Germany according to § 3 of the regulation for the commissioning of air sports associations of December 16, 1993 ( Federal Law Gazette I p. 2111), last amended by the regulation of October 1, 2001 (Federal Law Gazette I p. 2638), also with the Performing the following public tasks in connection with the use of the airspace by hang gliders and paragliders in accordance with Section 1 (4) LuftVZO entrusted:

  1. Granting of permits and authorizations for the aviation personnel of these aerial sports equipment
  2. Granting of permits for the training of these aviation personnel
  3. Granting of permits to take off and land with these air sports equipment outside of the approved airfields (Section 25 of the Aviation Act)
  4. Supervision of the operation of air sports equipment on airfields and grounds, if both are used exclusively for the operation of air sports equipment and unless another person is responsible for supervision
  5. Collection of costs according to the cost regulation of the aviation administration in the currently valid version.

Accordingly, according to Section 3a of the BeauftrV, the DHV has equal rights with the Deutscher Aero Club e. V. (DAeC) also for gliders acc. § 1 para. 4 LuftVO responsible.

Sample inspection body

Not included in the scope of the order is the approval or sample test of the corresponding air sports equipment and the definition of the necessary principles. The latter is the responsibility of the BMVI . The sample test for so-called “light air sports equipment” that is not subject to approval is carried out by sample test centers accredited by the DAkkS . The DHV operates one of these sample testing centers, but only acts as a "service provider" and does not generally set standards.

Additional tasks

In addition, the association takes on tasks for its members and other airmen.

  • DHV-Info, the free DHV magazine for members, is published every two months and has 100 pages
  • Investigating accidents and issuing safety notices as a result
  • Operation of an Internet portal with a forum , a second-hand market and other information about sports
  • Setting up the German national teams
  • Announcement of the German Cross Country Championship
  • Group insurance contracts for members
  • Data on recorded flights can be exchanged and compared via an online portal.

The Swiss counterpart to the DHV is the Swiss Hang Glider Association (SHV) . In Austria , the Austrian Aero Club (ÖAeC) takes on these tasks.
