With the type test in Germany, both the test of the type approval prior to the type approval of aircraft equipment according to LuftGerPV § 2 and § 10 as well as the testing of non-licensed air sports equipment according to LuftGerPV § 10a.

Depending on the application, different responsibilities and procedures are defined. In this regard, aviation equipment can also be regarded as special cases among aviation equipment, with a distinction again being made between those requiring approval (Section 10) and those that do not require approval or are exempt from type approval (Section 10a). The aviation associations commissioned for this purpose are generally responsible for the sample tests of the former in the course of approval in accordance with Section 31c of the Aviation Act, provided their scope of commission includes this.

In addition, the manufacturer is responsible for the airworthiness test for air sports equipment that is (only) subject to a type test according to Section 2 (2) LuftGerPV. The respective holder of the air sports device has acc. §14 V LuftGerPV to report defects immediately. According to §2 No. 1 LFBAG, the Federal Aviation Office has the task of checking and monitoring the tests to determine the traffic safety (airworthiness) of the aviation equipment according to the test regulations for aviation equipment. If the manufacturer does his job according to The Luftfahrt-Bundesamt is responsible for airworthiness instructions according to § 14 LuftBO.
